An extension of trading hours for retail businesses in the Perth Metropolitan Area across the Christmas and New Year period, as well as the Australia Day Public Holiday, has been announced late in October, by Commerce Minister John Quigley. It is hoped that the additional shopping hours will contribute to greater trade for local retail businesses.
What to know
Over the holiday period, general retail stores will be able to trade for additional hours with 35 additional hours between 7 December 2019 until 1 January 2020 included in the extra hours are:
•General shops can open at 7 am on weekdays commencing 16 December 2019
•General shops can open at and 6pm on Sunday and Public Holiday except on Christmas Day commencing Saturday 7 December 2019
Also announced today were extended trading hours on the Monday 27 January Public Holiday to allow shops to open between 8 am to 6 pm as Australia Day falls on a Sunday in 2020, the following Monday has 6 pm as a Public Holiday.
