Summer has well and truly set in, and we are already trying to find ways to cool down. Now not every property has a pool that you can slide into, so what other options are there?
Let’s start easy. Close your blinds. For when you aren’t home, shut up as many of your windows and doors as you can so that the heat from the lovely sun doesn’t overrun your house.
The poor old fan has definitely fallen out of favour since the mighty air conditioner rode on through. Though fans are still a wonderful way of keep the temperatures down and air flowing through your home. Plus, as an added bonus, they are cheaper to run.
Much like the cold air in winter, hot air can creep its way into your home through the gaps around windows and doors. Consider using weather strips of sealant to minimize the amount of space air can sneak through.
If you are really serious about keeping the heat out during summer, and conveniently also keeping your home warm and cosy in winter, then you should consider insulating your home. With several types of insulation, including wall, ceiling, floor and multi-use, you can save on energy bills and keep the temperature inside your home under control.
Another easy option people can opt for is to simply turn the lights off for longer. With the beautiful summer sun staying up for longer, we don’t need to use lighting as much in the home. Additionally, lighting does put out a small amount of heat, so when you are trying to keep cool, they definitely aren’t helping.
Let’s head outside! Keep the sun at bay by installing and putting up outdoor blinds and sails. With so many different types of blinds, from roller and awning to roll-up and retractable, there is a blind to suit every personality and every home style. Not only will these keep the heat out of your home, you will gain an entire new protected outdoor space. Shade sails can create additional covered space around your backyard, protecting up to 95% of harmful rays from the sun. Shade sails are a perfect way to cover various areas outside your home, such as patios, driveways, over pools and more. Being temporary fixtures, they can come down after the summer season has ended.
Last, but not least, and our personal favourite, chuck a steak on the barbie. Since the weather is so glorious outside, why don’t you stop cooking hot meals inside and keep all the heat inside? Take the cooking to the backyard and enjoy summer while it lasts!
